Statutory inspection is a legal requirement. Not optional.

UK health and safety law requires businesses to arrange thorough examination of lifting equipment (LOLER 1998), pressure systems (PSSR 2000), work equipment (PUWER 1998), LEV systems (COSHH 2002) and more, carried out by a competent, independent person.

HSE requires that LOLER thorough examinations are carried out by a person independent of those who maintain the equipment, typically a UKAS-accredited inspection body (ISO 17020). Non-compliance carries significant legal and insurance consequences.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an insurance inspection and is it the same as a statutory inspection?
Yes — they are the same thing. 'Insurance inspection' (or 'engineering insurance inspection') is the traditional name used historically by insurers, brokers and older industrial businesses. 'Statutory inspection' is the modern regulatory name. Both refer to the legally required thorough examination of plant and equipment under LOLER, PSSR, PUWER, LEV and similar UK regulations, carried out by a competent person or UKAS-accredited inspection body.
Is this a binding quotation?
No. Prices shown are indicative comparisons based on your asset information. A confirmed quotation is issued directly by the inspection provider after review.
Which inspection bodies are on the panel?
We work with accredited UK engineering inspection companies. The panel is displayed in your comparison results, including providers who are unable to quote for a given risk.
Do I need to be an existing customer of any provider?
No. CompareEngineering.com introduces you to inspection providers. You compare indicative prices and choose who to proceed with.
I have hundreds of assets. Can I upload a spreadsheet?
Yes. Upload any CSV or PDF schedule, including an existing provider's format. Our AI extracts and maps your equipment automatically.
Is it free to use?
Comparing is completely free. There is no charge to create an account, upload your schedule, or view indicative pricing.
